Competitive business 100% biogas and biogas blended energy contracts

Are you eager to reduce your business’s carbon emissions from your gas consumption? Our Biogas range of products could be the solution for your business. Crown Gas & Power is committed to offering low carbon products to support the production of cleaner energy and reduce global carbon emissions.

We offer four Biogas products to cater for all budgets.  Biogas has a considerably smaller carbon footprint when compared to natural gas meaning a switch to biogas can help our planet.  Our biogas products are below:

  • Bio100* – 100%  biogas
  • Bio50 (blend) – 50% biogas and 50% natural gas (carbon offset)
  • Bio25 (blend) – 25% biogas and 75% natural gas (carbon offset)
  • Bio10 (blend) – 10% biogas and 90% natural gas (carbon offset)

*The marginal scope 1 emissions produced from our Bio100 product are carbon offset

Here are four reasons to choose one of our Biogas products:

  • ALL OUR BIOGAS IS PRODUCED HERE IN THE UK SUPPORTING BRITISH JOBS
  • FOR BLENDED PRODUCTS WITH AN ELEMENT OF CARBON OFFSETTING, WE HAND PICK CARBON OFFSETTING SCHEMES
  • WE PROVIDE CERTIFICATES TO DISPLAY AT YOUR PREMISES
  • WE HAVE BIOGAS PRODUCTS TO SUIT A RANGE OF BUDGETS

What is biogas and how is it made?

  • Biogas is produced through a process called anaerobic digestion (AD) whereby bacteria breaks down organic materials in an oxygen-free environment.  Biogas can be used as a substitute for natural gas as it has the same characteristics and very similar specifications as natural gas (its fossil fuel equivalent).
  • Biogas (sometimes referred to as green gas) is produced from a range of organic materials (feedstocks) including maize, rye, food residues and landfill materials. Once the Biogas has been produced, it is refined and can be injected into the gas network in much the same way as natural gas.
  • There are currently 650 operational anaerobic digestion plants in the UK, which is a significant rise from one facility in 2013. This number, alongside the ambitions for net zero living by 2050, shows the UK’s ambition for Biogas to support the transition to clean energy.

NEW Bio10 for your business

Bio10 was introduced to our product range in 2024 as our entry level biogas blended product.  It consists of:

  • 10% low emission biogas
  • 90% carbon offset natural gas

Your Scope 1 carbon emissions will be offset on your behalf under either Gold Standard (GS) or Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) certified schemes.

Why biogas is good for your business

Low carbon emissions

Burning gas from fossil fuels introduces carbon dioxide into the atmosphere that has been locked away for millions of years, this then causes climate damage, whereas biogas is produced solely from organic materials that are already present within the environment.

Accountability

The Green Gas Certification Scheme currently governs the process for all biogas certificates.  The certification scheme tracks all biogas from production through to consumption.  Biogas certificates will be sent to customers after the contract start date (or live date if later).

Reduces our reliance on fossil fuel gas

Every unit of biogas displaces a unit of natural gas (fossil fuel) which helps reduce carbon emissions.  Organic waste is continuously created and can be used to create Biogas, thus reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.

How to switch to a biogas agreement for your business

Speak to our team today to discuss switching your business to biogas with a 10%, 25% or 50% biogas blend or our 100% biogas product.  Whilst there is a growing demand for biogas, there is currently a limited volume of biogas available in the UK.  Choosing a biogas contract does attract a premium.  Prices for biogas have changed considerably over the past few years as demand increases.

Biogas FAQs

How do I switch to a biogas contract with Crown Gas & Power?

You can get a quote quickly and easily by heading here. Alternatively, you can contact our sales team on 0161 762 1883 or email us at quotes@crowngas.co.uk.  If contacting us by email, please provide your Company Name, Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN), postcode and your desired contract start date.

Where do you source your biogas?

Our biogas is sourced from multiple UK producers and is administered through the Green Gas Certification Scheme.  All our biogas is traded as Renewable Gas Guarantee of Origins (RGGO’s).

Why is biogas more expensive?

Biogas does attract a premium due to the RGGO certification that comes with the product compared to natural gas (fossil fuel). This is why we created our blended product range to ensure there is an option for all budgets.

When do I receive my Green Gas certificate?

We aim to send out our certificates within three weeks of coming live.

Do I need to change my boiler for biogas?

Absolutely no changes to your equipment are required to accommodate biogas.

How is biogas fed into the gas transmission network?

Traditionally biomethane was captured, stored, and injected into the national grid as a separate process however recently National Grid confirmed a local plant was able to be connected directly to the transmission grid for the first time. See our biogas article here.

We believe we’ll start seeing more plants being connected directly to the grid.
